Kite Instructor: Full-time/Seasonal

Description of Position and Duties

At Zephyr Kiteboarding, we deliver an immersive and fully inclusive kitesurfing tour package to our guests and clients. This includes transportation, chef-prepared meals, daily kite lessons and coaching, kite adventures, non-kite activities, and more. Our Cocos (K) Islands kitesurfing tours operate for 7-10 days, every two weeks, for the duration of the windy season (July to September). From the moment our guests are picked up in the morning until bedtime each evening, every member of the team is expected to help provide exceptional customer service to our guests while ensuring that each day runs as smoothly as possible.

As a kite instructor, your role is to help provide and deliver unique kiteboarding-focused experiences for all our guests. You will assist in every aspect of the tour operation, from teaching and coaching kiteboarding, transport and logistics, cleaning and maintenance, all while socialising with our clients and creating an exceptional tour experience.

When out on the water or riding with our clients, your role is to inspire and encourage them while constantly looking for opportunities to offer beneficial coaching tips and pointers to help get each guest stoked on kitesurfing. You will utilise an array of coaching methods, including one-to-one lessons, coaching clinics and tutorials, and coaching from within the boat, both on and off the water.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled individual who is passionate about kiteboarding and is flexible, resourceful, and proactive in their approach to work and life. They must be confident, possess a strong work ethic, and have initiative, all while helping to deliver the best possible kiteboarding and customer-focused experience.

The right person will be responsible for coaching, guiding, transporting clients and supplies and helping deliver an exceptional tour experience for each 10-day tour. Behind the scenes or away from our clients, you may be required to perform tasks essential to the preparation and set-up of each tour, including maintenance, cleaning, food prep, early starts, and late evenings.

We want you to have a passion for the sport of kitesurfing with the ability to enhance the client’s experience by sharing the stoke.

Responsibilities:

  • Coaching and teaching kiteboarding.
  • Guiding on the water while providing an exceptional customer service experience.
  • Transporting clients and supplies around the islands.
  • Cleaning and general maintenance of the kite centre, vehicles, and staff accommodation.
  • Active and constant application of all work, health, and safety standards on and off the water.
  • Adherence to Zephyr Kiteboarding’s code of conduct and quality standards.
  • Reporting to managers and the ability to take on feedback.

Pre-requisites:

  • Professional experience in instructing kiteboarding.
  • Experience in hospitality, customer service and/or servicing large groups of up to 20 people.
  • Passion for kitesurfing, being comfortable living in remote environments in shared accommodation, and a desire to live in a tropical paradise.
  • Ability to show initiative and possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, professional and possess a positive attitude.
  • Intermediate kiteboarding skill level – must be able to perform basic tricks consistently.

Essential Criteria:

  •  KA, IKO, or equivalent qualification
  • Valid Working With Children Check
  • Driver’s Licence (manual vehicle)
  • KA Membership

Chef/Cook: Full-time/Seasonal

Description of Position and Duties

This is not your average chef job. Read on to find out more.

As the tour cook/chef, your role is to cook healthy and nutritious meals and snacks for all our guests and the team daily. You will help create the tour meal plan for each 10-day tour by working with the available food options for each day. The Cocos (K) Islands are a remote Australian Territory, with fresh food in short supply. Your creativity is essential for staying within a budget, utilising whatever food we have available on the island, and making fresh food stretch and last for each two-week period between food deliveries. You will be responsible for all food shopping, placing food orders with various suppliers, booking evening meals with local providers, conducting stocktakes, and liaising with management on daily scheduling to ensure timely meal delivery.

It is essential that you are already a kitesurfer. When out on the water or riding with our clients, we want you to inspire, encourage, and help get each guest stoked on kitesurfing.

Behind the scenes and away from our clients, you may be required to perform tasks essential to the preparation and setup of each tour, including maintenance, cleaning, food preparation, early starts, late evenings, and more.

Is this the right job for you?

The appropriate candidate will be a skilled individual who is flexible, resourceful, and creative when preparing food. They must be confident in producing delicious meals and snacks using a basic kitchen, a gas burner BBQ, with limited food availability and have an eye for presentation. The right candidate will be responsible for catering for up to 26 people, between 2-3 meals daily. They must be able to utilise local businesses for food supplies, ingredients and meals to deliver an enhanced culinary experience for our clients. The ideal candidate must have a passion for kitesurfing and the ability to kite with our clients and share the stoke. 

Responsibilities:

  • Management of the whole catering operation from start to finish
  • Cater 2-3 meals each day for up to 26 people, for each 10-day tour
  • Responsible for adhering to the company’s quality standards
  • Control of budgeting, stock control and purchasing of food products
  • Management of the staff-house kitchen and fridges, along with the use and allocation of food
  • Responsible for the active and constant application of all safety and hygiene standards in the kitchen
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the kitchen, utensils, and crockery
  • Reporting to managers and taking on feedback

Pre-requisites:

  • Professional experience working in the food industry (Certificate III Commercial Cookery qualification or above highly regarded)
  • Experience in preparing meals for large groups of up to 26 people
  • Food safety certificate/or the ability to obtain
  • Pro-active, professional and possess a positive attitude
  • Ability to show initiative and possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • Remote work experience (highly desirable)
  • A passion for kitesurfing, being comfortable living in remote environments in shared accommodation, and a desire to live in a tropical paradise
  • Intermediate kiteboarder skill level – must be able to ride upwind

Volunteer Host: 2-4 Weeks

Description of Position and Duties

At Zephyr Kiteboarding, we deliver an immersive and fully inclusive kitesurfing tour package to our guests and clients. This includes transportation, chef-prepared meals, daily kite lessons and coaching, kite adventures, non-kite activities, and more. Our Cocos (K) Islands kitesurfing tours operate for 7-10 days, every two weeks, for the duration of the windy season (July to September). From the moment our guests are picked up in the morning until bedtime each evening, every member of the team is expected to help provide exceptional customer service to our guests while ensuring that each day runs as smoothly as possible.

As a volunteer host & logistics operator in the Cocos with Zephyr Tours, your role is to assist the chef and team by helping with meal preparation and food delivery, ensuring that food preparation and service areas are kept clean and tidy. You will provide logistics and transport services by driving the Toyota Landcruiser Troopcarrier with a trailer, transporting clients, staff, and meals, and keeping the Troopy clean and presentable. While at Kite Beach, you will be responsible for assisting with non-tuition operations, including helping clients launch and land kites, restocking food supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the Kite Centre.

Our tours offer a completely immersive experience for our guests, and we invite you to join them on tour. It is essential that you are a kitesurfer and passionate about providing unparalleled service for our clients. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a similar tour environment, with exceptional customer service skills. They must be professional in their approach to work, possess confidence, and have a strong work ethic, all while helping to deliver the best possible kiteboarding and customer-focused experience.

Responsibilities:

Kite Beach Duties-

  • Professionally interact with clients while actively trying to help as and when needed
  • Launch and land kites
  • Help clients in a non-coaching role, e.g., pump up their kites, run their lines, etc…
  • Set up and pack up chairs, tables, etc…
  • Help to keep Kite Beach clean and tidy
  • Be stoked!

Host Duties-

  • Assist in set-up, pack-up, washing up, & clean-up before and after meals, whether at Kite Beach or another location
  • Ensure all food preparation, serving, and eating areas are clean and tidy, and eating surfaces are wiped down before each meal
  • Work with the chef to assist in meal preparation, food presentation, shopping for food, & food delivery
  • Restocking food, water, and ice supplies at Kite Beach

Logistics Duties-

  • Drive the Toyota Landcruiser Troopcarrier or Hire Car with a trailer to transport guests, food, and staff as required
  • Assist in cleaning, washing, & sweeping the vehicles daily
  • Assist in refuelling vehicles & jerry cans

Pre-requisites:

  • Experience in hospitality, customer service, and/or servicing large groups of up to 26 people
  • Passion for kitesurfing, being comfortable living in remote environments in shared accommodation, and a desire to live in a tropical paradise
  • Ability to show initiative and possess strong problem-solving skills
  • Proactive, professional, and positive attitude

  • Must be a kitesurfer. Beginner level is OK.
  • Drivers Licence (manual vehicle)
  • Kiteboarding Australia Membership
  • Valid Working Visa
